Lieutenant, United States Naval Reserve

Orlando Henderson Petty was an American physician and naval officer who served as a surgeon in the United States Naval Reserve during World War I. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism in treating wounded soldiers under intense enemy fire.
During his service in France, Petty demonstrated exceptional bravery while attached to the 5th Regiment of Marines. Despite being subjected to heavy gas and artillery bombardment, he continuously ran into the open to rescue and treat wounded personnel, even after his own gas mask was rendered useless by shrapnel.
In addition to the Medal of Honor, his courage on the battlefield earned him several prestigious foreign and domestic decorations, including the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, and military crosses from France and Italy. After the war, he returned to his medical practice, leaving behind a legacy of supreme devotion to duty.
