Rescued a drowning man from Hamburg Harbor’s dangerous tide.
Paul Tobin was born in Plybin, France. He served as a landsman in the United States Navy aboard USS Plymouth.
On 3 July 1871 in Hamburg Harbor, Germany, a party approaching the ship in a shore boat was thrown into a four-knot running tide. Tobin and another sailor jumped overboard at great risk and rescued one of the men from drowning.
