Captain Philip John Gardner was a British Army officer who served during the Second World War. He was educated at Dulwich College between the years of 1928 and 1932 before embarking on his military career.
He is best known as an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
In addition to the Victoria Cross, Captain Gardner was also decorated with the Military Cross for his distinguished services and bravery in combat during his military career.
