Richard Annand

Captain Richard Wallace Annand was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Notably, his decoration was the first Victoria Cross awarded to a member of the British Army during the Second World War.

Serving with the 2nd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, Annand demonstrated exceptional bravery in combat. He held the rank of Sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy and Captain in the Army during his distinguished service history.

In addition to the Victoria Cross, his service was recognized with several campaign medals, commemorative medals, and long service decorations, including the Army Emergency Reserve Decoration with a bar, marking his continued dedication and service to the military.
