Rear admiral, U.S. Navy

Rear Admiral Richard Nott Antrim was a highly decorated officer in the United States Navy who served with distinction during World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his extraordinary actions as a prisoner of war under brutal conditions during World War II. Over his long career, Antrim became one of the few naval officers to hold both the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross.
Antrim's service spanned multiple major conflicts and included both aviation and surface warfare duties, as evidenced by his earning of both the Naval Aviator Badge and the Surface Warfare Officer Insignia. His courage under captivity and his leadership in the Pacific theater earned him a legendary reputation within the naval service.
He retired from active duty in 1954 as a Rear Admiral, leaving behind a legacy of supreme sacrifice, valor, and devotion to duty. His foreign decorations and numerous campaign medals reflect a career of global service and profound impact during some of the twentieth century's most critical conflicts.
