Major (Army) Colonel (National Guard), U.S. Army
Robert Temple Emmet was an officer in the United States Army who received the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his conspicuous gallantry in action on the Western Frontier.
An 1877 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Emmet served in numerous campaigns against Native American tribes during the late 19th century. His leadership and bravery were prominently displayed during an engagement where he and his men were surrounded by a much larger hostile force.
Following his active-duty service in the regular Army, Emmet continued his military career in the National Guard, eventually reaching the rank of colonel. His legacy remains defined by his steadfast devotion to duty and heroism under fire during the Indian Wars.
