Sergeant Ross Franklin Gray was a United States Marine who posthumously received the Medal of Honor – the highest military honor of the United States – for his heroic service in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II, having single-handedly disarmed an entire mine field while under heavy enemy fire. He was killed in action six days later.
