Sergeant First Class, U.S. Army
Sammy Lee Davis is a retired United States Army soldier who served during the Vietnam War. He is best known for his actions on November 18, 1967, near Cai Lay, Republic of Vietnam, while serving as a Cannoneer with Battery C, 2nd Battalion, 4th Artillery, 9th Infantry Division. Despite being heavily wounded, Davis single-handedly manned a burning artillery piece to fire on advancing enemy forces and rescued three wounded comrades from across a river, actions for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
Davis's distinguished service during the conflict also earned him the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts, and multiple service and campaign medals. His heroic conduct and dedication to his fellow soldiers made him one of the most recognized heroes of the Vietnam War, with his Medal of Honor citation highlighting his extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty.
After his military service, Davis continued to be an active advocate for veterans and military families. He has traveled extensively to share his story and promote patriotism, representing the finest traditions of the United States Army and the Medal of Honor Society.
