Biography
Shot the color bearer and seized the flag on Missionary Ridge!
Simeon T. Josselyn led skirmishers up Missionary Ridge and returned with both prisoners and an enemy battle flag. A first lieutenant in Company C, 13th Illinois Infantry, he fought in the Union assault at Chattanooga on 25 November 1863.
While commanding the skirmish line, Josselyn captured prisoners and personally confronted the Confederate color bearer. He shot the color bearer, seized the flag and brought it back to the Union line. His conduct earned the Medal of Honor.

Josselyn was born at Buffalo, New York, on 14 January 1842. He died on 4 April 1905 at Skagway, Alaska, and was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park at Omaha, Nebraska.
