Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army
Thomas Weldon Fowler was a student at Texas A&M University before entering the military. He served as a United States Army officer during World War II, achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant. He was awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States' highest military decoration, for his extraordinary heroism in action near Carano, Italy, in May 1944.
Fowler's leadership and bravery on the battlefield were instrumental during his unit's operations in the European theater. He fearlessly braved intense enemy fire to coordinate defenses, clear minefields, and assist wounded comrades under direct opposition.
In addition to the Medal of Honor, Lieutenant Fowler was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. He was also authorized the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal for his service in the conflict.
