Wilbur N. Taylor

Cavalry courage during the campaigns in Arizona in 1868–1869

Wilbur Nelson Taylor was born in Hampden, Maine, on 2 December 1846. He worked on the family farm before moving to Boston and enlisting in 1866. He served for five years in Company K, 8th U.S. Cavalry, including operations in Arizona.

As a corporal, Taylor earned the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Arizona campaigns of 1868 and 1869. He received the award on 6 September 1869.

After leaving the Army in 1871, Taylor learned the wallpaper trade in Boston and later settled in Minneapolis. He established his own wallpaper business, married Araminta Seavey in 1883 and raised three sons. He died in Minneapolis on 20 November 1903 and was buried at Lakewood Cemetery.
