William E. Holyoke

He served with distinction during China's relief expedition.

William Edward Holyoke earned the Medal of Honor for his service during the Allied relief expedition in China in June 1900. A Navy boatswain’s mate first class assigned to USS Newark, he was recognized for meritorious conduct on June 13, 20, 21 and 22 during the Boxer Rebellion.

Born in Groveton, New Hampshire, on March 13, 1868, Holyoke died on April 3, 1934. He was buried at Charles Evans Cemetery in Reading, Pennsylvania. His Medal of Honor is held by the Musée National de la Légion d’Honneur in Paris, France, preserving a tangible connection to his recognized service.
