Private, Canadian Army
William Johnstone Milne VC was a Canadian soldier of the First World War. He served as a Private in the Canadian Army. He is best remembered for his conspicuous bravery during the Battle of Vimy Ridge, where his actions earned him the nation's highest military honor.
On 9 April 1917, during the opening day of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Milne performed the actions that would posthumously earn him the Victoria Cross. His gallantry in the face of the enemy was instrumental during the assault, though it ultimately cost him his life.
Milne's legacy is preserved through his posthumous Victoria Cross, which is currently held in the collection of the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. He remains one of Canada's most celebrated heroes of the Great War.
