William Mackey Wherry was an American brigadier general, author and recipient of the Medal of Honor.
Verified service: 3d U.S. Reserve Missouri Infantry, Company D. At Wilson’s Creek on 10 August 1861, he rallied soldiers recoiling under heavy fire. He later became a brigadier general. Born 13 September 1836 in St. Louis; died 3 November 1918 in Cincinnati; buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis.
