William Thomas Simmons was a first lieutenant in the United States Army who was awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantry at the Battle of Nashville in Tennessee during the American Civil War.
Verified service: 11th Missouri Infantry, Company C. At Nashville on 16 December 1864, he shot and wounded the color bearer of the 34th Alabama Infantry and captured its flag; the Medal of Honor was presented on 24 February 1865. Born 29 January 1843 in Virden, Illinois; after the war worked in construction and building trades; died 27 December 1908 in Calistoga, California.
