The Order of Prince Danilo I is the oldest order of Montenegro, established by Prince Danilo I Petrović-Njegoš in 1853 to commemorate and preserve Montenegrin independence. Originally a state order of the Principality and later Kingdom of Montenegro, it is now maintained as a dynastic order of the Royal House of Petrović-Njegoš and is awarded for distinguished service, humanitarian achievement, and contributions to Montenegrin society and independence.
