United States civilian decoration established by Act of Congress on 20 July 1942 and awarded by the President of the United States for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services in connection with the World War II war effort. The decoration has one degree. The medal consists of a gold-finished bronze eagle and arrows within a dark-blue enamel ring bearing thirteen white stars. The ribbon is magenta with two narrow white vertical stripes in the centre. The Medal for Merit has not been awarded since 1952.
