Spanish order of merit instituted by King Ferdinand VII on 14 March 1815 as the Royal and American Order of Isabella the Catholic. It was reorganized by Royal Decree on 26 July 1847 and renamed the Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic. The current regulations were approved by Royal Decree 2395/1998. The regulated ribbon is white with two gold-yellow stripes positioned near the edges. Awarded to Spanish and foreign recipients for distinguished services benefiting Spain and for significant contributions to Spain's international relations.
