Brigadier General (USV), U.S. Army
Abraham Kerns Arnold was an officer in the United States Cavalry who served with distinction during the American Civil War. Commissioned into the 5th U.S. Cavalry, he demonstrated remarkable bravery under fire during the campaigns in Virginia.
He received the Medal of Honor for his actions at Davenport Bridge, Virginia, on May 10, 1864. While serving as a captain, Arnold led a gallant charge against a superior force of the enemy, successfully extricating his command from a perilous position into which it had been ordered.
Following his Civil War service, Arnold continued his military career in the U.S. Army, eventually achieving the rank of Colonel in the regular army and Brigadier General in the U.S. Volunteers.
