First Lieutenant, U.S. Army
Abram Pye Haring was an American soldier who fought during the American Civil War, serving as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He is best remembered for his conspicuous bravery and leadership during a key engagements in North Carolina, which ultimately earned him the nation's highest military decoration.
On February 1, 1864, at Bachelor's Creek, North Carolina, Haring was in command of a small detachment of eleven men. Despite facing an overwhelming attack by Confederate forces, he and his men mounted a fierce and stubborn resistance, holding their ground against superior numbers.
For his exceptional courage and leadership during the defense, Haring was officially awarded the Medal of Honor on June 28, 1890. His actions remain a testament to the dedication and resolve of Union soldiers during the conflict.
