Coxswain, U.S. Navy
Albert E. Beyer was a United States Navy Coxswain who served during the Spanish–American War. He distinguished himself during the Battle of Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898, where he participated in a perilous cable-cutting operation under heavy enemy fire to sever communication lines.
For his heroic actions during the engagement, Beyer was awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States' highest military decoration. He was among 52 sailors and marines who received the medal for their gallantry during this specific battle.
Following his naval service, Beyer returned to civilian life. He passed away and was laid to rest in the Mount Moriah Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, within the Naval Asylum plot, leaving behind a legacy of conspicuous bravery in the face of the enemy.
