Biography
His distinguished conduct supported the advance on Tientsin.
Albert Ralph Campbell was born on 8 April 1875 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a private with the 1st Regiment during the China Relief Expedition of 1900.
On 21 June 1900, Campbell took part in the advance on Tientsin, now Tianjin, during the Boxer Rebellion. His conduct in that action earned the Medal of Honor.
His medal was presented on 24 March 1902 and he later held the rank of corporal. Campbell died in Los Angeles, California, on 4 December 1925, aged 50. He is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
Official Medal of Honor citation:
"In action at Tientsin, China, 21 June 1900. During the advance on Tientsin, Campbell distinguished himself by his conduct."
