Alfred Joseph Knight

Second Lieutenant Alfred Joseph Knight was a British Army officer and an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He holds the unique distinction of being the only Post Office Rifleman to ever receive this prestigious award.

Knight served with distinction during the First World War, where his extraordinary heroism under fire earned him the nation's highest military decoration. His actions during the conflict exemplified the utmost courage and devotion to duty, serving as an inspiration to his fellow soldiers.

In addition to the Victoria Cross, he was also appointed as a member of the Order of the British Empire. His historic medal group, representing his remarkable bravery and service, is preserved and held by the British Postal Museum & Archive.
