Colonel Alfred Spencer Heathcote VC was a highly decorated British Army officer who served with the 60th Royal Rifles corps during the 19th century. He is best known for his exceptional bravery during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, an action for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
In addition to his celebrated service in India, Heathcote also served with distinction during the Second Opium War, particularly during the Battle of Taku Forts. His leadership and courage across these major campaigns marked him as an outstanding military figure of his era.
