Alonzo Bowman was a United States Army Sergeant who served during the Indian Wars in the late 19th century. He is best known for his actions during the battle at Cibecue Creek, Arizona, where he demonstrated exceptional courage and devotion to duty under fire.
On August 30, 1881, Sergeant Bowman's unit engaged hostile forces in Arizona. For his conspicuous gallantry and bravery during this engagement, he was formally recognized by the United States government and was awarded the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, on November 4, 1882.
His service represents the rugged determination of the frontier soldiers during the complex and hazardous campaigns of the American Indian Wars, cementing his place in the annals of U.S. Army history.
