Private, British Army
Arthur Poulter was an English soldier in the British Army who became a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Serving as a Private, Poulter's exceptional bravery was recognized during his military service. His actions solidified his place among the most revered figures in British military history, exemplifying the extreme courage required to receive such a prestigious decoration.
Following his military career, his family donated his original Victoria Cross in 1999 to the Duke of Wellington's Regimental Museum located in Bankfield Museum, Halifax, West Yorkshire. Due to a subsequent attempted burglary at the museum, the original medal is now kept in a safe place, with a replica currently on public display.
