Colonel, U.S. Air Force
Colonel Bernard Francis "Bernie" Fisher was a highly decorated United States Air Force officer who distinguished himself during the Vietnam War. He became the first living member of the U.S. Air Force to receive the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration for valor, following a daring rescue mission in 1966. Flying an A-1 Skyraider, Major Fisher landed on a battle-torn runway under heavy enemy fire to rescue a downed fellow pilot.
