Charles B. Woram was born March 29, 1845, in New York City. During the Civil War he served as Seaman in USS Oneida.
On August 5, 1864, at Mobile Bay, Alabama, acting as an aide to the executive officer, Woram delivered orders accurately throughout the battle and was praised for his cool courage as the Union fleet fought past the forts and the Confederate ram Tennessee.
