Clarence Melville Condon was a United States Army Sergeant who distinguished himself by receiving the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Philippine–American War. Serving in the Army, his exceptional bravery was demonstrated during combat operations on the island of Jolo.
He achieved a unique distinction in military history by being awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Army Certificate of Merit for his gallantry in action against the Moros. He was the only man in the United States Army to have earned both of these prestigious decorations for bravery in the same campaign.
Following his distinguished active service, he was honored with the naming of Condon Road at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Additionally, in 1921, a vessel named the Junior Mine Planter Captain Clarence M. Condon was completed in his honor by the Dafoe Shipbuilding Company.
