Major (Union Army) Colonel (Militia), U.S. Army
George Grenville Benedict was an American politician, newspaper editor and soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Benedict was awarded the country's highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania on July 3, 1863. He was honored with the award on June 27, 1892.
