Corporal, U.S. Army
Corporal Gordon Maynard Craig was a United States Army soldier who served during the Korean War. He was a member of the infantry, serving in the historic conflict on the Korean Peninsula where United Nations forces clashed with North Korean troops during the critical early stages of the war.
On September 10, 1950, during the intense Battle of Ka-san, Corporal Craig demonstrated conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty. He sacrificed his own life to save his comrades by throwing himself on an enemy grenade, absorbing the full force of the blast.
For his extraordinary heroism and selflessness, Corporal Craig was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. His legacy remains a testament to the ultimate sacrifice made by American infantrymen during the Korean War.
