Lieutenant-colonel, Canadian Army

Henry Mareus "Harcus" Strachan was a Scottish-born Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for valour in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Born in Scotland, Strachan later immigrated to Canada where he joined the Canadian Army. He served with distinction during the First World War, demonstrating exceptional leadership and courage under fire.
His gallantry on the battlefield earned him both the Victoria Cross and the Military Cross, marking him as one of the most highly decorated Canadian soldiers of the conflict. He later achieved the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
