Harry Harvey (Medal of Honor, 1901)

He fought bravely at Benefictican in the Philippine campaign

Harry Harvey was born in New York on 4 June 1873. He entered the United States Marine Corps and was a sergeant during the Philippine-American War. He is distinct from the Army Civil War recipient of the same name.

On 16 February 1900, Harvey fought at Benefictican in the Philippine Islands. His official citation records distinguished conduct throughout the battle without describing a separate rescue or tactical maneuver.

His Medal of Honor was presented on 24 January 1902. Harvey later lived in California and died in Long Beach on 5 April 1929. He was buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery. His Medal of Honor is held by the American Numismatic Society in New York.

Official Medal of Honor citation: Served in battle against the enemy at Benefictican, 16 February 1900. Throughout this action and in the presence of the enemy, Harvey distinguished himself by meritorious conduct.
