Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps
Harvey Curtiss Barnum Jr. is a retired United States Marine Corps officer who received the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War. He was the fourth Marine to receive the medal for actions in Vietnam, earning the nation's highest military decoration for valor. Barnum retired from the Marine Corps in 1989 after more than 27 years of dedicated service.
Following his military career, Barnum transitioned to significant civilian leadership roles within the Department of the Navy. He served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Reserve Affairs from July 23, 2001, to January 20, 2008. Additionally, he stepped in to serve as the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy from January 21 to April 30, 2009.
Throughout his distinguished career, Colonel Barnum earned numerous decorations for heroism and meritorious service, including the Bronze Star with valor device and the Purple Heart. His legacy remains highly influential within the U.S. Marine Corps and the broader naval service.
