Henry D. O'Brien was an American soldier who served with the Union Army during the American Civil War. He is remembered for his extraordinary bravery during one of the most pivotal conflicts in American history.

During the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863, O'Brien performed actions of conspicuous gallantry that would later earn him the United States military's highest decoration for valor. He eventually rose to the rank of Major within the U.S. Army.
