Howard Elphinstone (British Army officer, born 1829)

Major-General Sir Howard Craufurd Elphinstone was a highly distinguished British Army officer whose career was defined by his heroic service during the Crimean War and his subsequent royal duties. Born in 1829, Elphinstone entered the Royal Engineers, where his technical skills and immense bravery quickly brought him to prominence on the battlefield. His exceptional leadership and gallantry during the Siege of Sevastopol earned him the nation's highest military decoration.

Following his distinguished active service, Elphinstone was appointed as governor to Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, a son of Queen Victoria.
