Gunnery Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps
Howard Major Buckley was a United States Marine Corps private who received the Medal of Honor for his distinguished actions during the Philippine–American War. He was one of only three Marines attached to the Eighth Army Corps during the conflict.
Buckley earned the nation's highest military decoration for a series of heroic actions taking place over several days in the spring of 1899, specifically on March 25, 27, and 29, as well as April 4, 1899. He later achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant during his service in the Marine Corps.
