Lieutenant, Canadian Army
Hugh McDonald McKenzie was a Canadian soldier who served during World War I. He was a member of the Canadian Army and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He is most famous for his posthumous actions during the Second Battle of Passchendaele, where his extraordinary gallantry led to him being awarded the Victoria Cross.
On October 1917, during a critical attack, McKenzie demonstrated outstanding leadership and courage in the face of the enemy. His actions during the assault ultimately cost him his life, but his bravery was recognized with the British Empire's highest award for valor.
Today, Lieutenant McKenzie is remembered as one of Canada's premier military heroes of the Great War. His Victoria Cross is currently displayed at the Museum of the Regiments in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, serving as a lasting testament to his sacrifice and bravery.
