Jeremiah Z. Brown

Assaulted and captured enemy works with 100 selected volunteers

Captain Jeremiah Z. Brown led one hundred selected volunteers directly against Confederate works at Petersburg and captured the position.

Jeremiah Z. Brown was born November 7, 1839, near Rural Valley, Pennsylvania. During the period relevant to this record he served as Captain with Company K, 148th Pennsylvania Infantry. He later attained the rank of Brevet Major.

On October 27, 1864, at Petersburg, Virginia, the assault carried the enemy works and brought in a number of Confederate officers and enlisted men as prisoners. Brown later received the brevet rank of major.

With 100 selected volunteers, Brown assaulted and captured the works of the enemy, together with a number of officers and men.

He died February 19, 1916, in Porter Township, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Squirrel Hill Cemetery, New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
