Biography

Bravery under fire at Bamban earned the highest Army honour.

John A. Huntsman was a sergeant in Company E, 36th Infantry, U.S. Volunteers. At Bamban, Luzon, on November 9, 1899, his bravery in action against insurgents earned the Medal of Honor. He later attained the rank of second lieutenant.

Born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on March 20, 1867, Huntsman was accredited to Lawrence, Kansas. He received his medal on March 26, 1902, and died in the Philippines on July 10 of that year.
