John Carroll Delaney was a United States Army soldier who served during the American Civil War. He achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant during his military service. Delaney is most notable for his heroic actions during the Battle of Hatcher's Run in Virginia.
On 6 February 1865, Delaney displayed exceptional bravery during combat operations at Hatcher's Run. His actions on that day earned him the United States' highest military decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor.
Delaney was officially honored with the Medal of Honor decades after the conflict, on 29 August 1894. His legacy remains preserved as a recipient of the nation's premier award for gallantry in action during the American Civil War.
