John Thomas "Mac" McAleese, MM was a Scottish soldier who served in several late 20th century conflicts with the British Army. He began his military career with the Royal Engineers before passing selection for the elite Special Air Service (SAS).
During his distinguished service in the Special Air Service, McAleese played a prominent role in one of the unit's most famous operations. He participated in the storming of the Iranian Embassy in London during the dramatic hostage-taking siege in May 1980, which was broadcast live on national television.
His exceptional service during his military career earned him the Military Medal, among other recognitions, cementing his legacy as a legendary British special forces operator.
