Rifleman, British Indian Army
Karanbahadur Rana Magar was a Nepalese Gurkha recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to members of British and Commonwealth forces.
He served as a Rifleman in the Gurkha regiment, which was part of the Indian Army under British administration. His actions in combat earned him the empire's premier award for valor under fire.
Following his death, his Victoria Cross and other service medals were acquired from one of his sons by the Gurkha Museum in Winchester, Hampshire, England, where they have been preserved and displayed to the public since November 1974.
