Louis G. Chaput

Louis G. Chaput was a Union Navy sailor who served during the American Civil War. Serving as a Landsman, his exceptional bravery in combat earned him the nation's highest military decoration for valor.

During the historic Battle of Mobile Bay on August 5, 1864, Chaput performed his duties with distinction. His courage under fire while serving aboard the USS Lackawanna during the intense engagement against Confederate forces led to his nomination for the Medal of Honor.

His legacy remains preserved as a symbol of the dedication and gallantry displayed by Civil War sailors who braved heavy enemy fire to secure critical naval victories for the Union.
