Biography

He defended his wounded captain against overwhelming forces.

Louis Gedeon was born on 19 September 1878 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He served as a private with Company G, 19th United States Infantry during the Philippine conflict.

On 4 February 1900 at Mount Amia, Cebu, Gedeon singlehandedly defended his mortally wounded captain against an overwhelming enemy force. The action earned the Medal of Honor, awarded on 10 March 1902.

Gedeon later held the rank of sergeant. He died on 11 October 1950 in Washington, District of Columbia, and is buried in Soldier's Home National Cemetery there.
