Martin T. Torgerson

He served under fire with the Allied China relief expedition

Martin Torinus Torgerson was born on 7 November 1875 in Oleesen, Norway. He served as a gunner's mate third class in the United States Navy aboard USS Newark.

In June 1900, Torgerson took part in action with the Allied relief expedition in China. His meritorious conduct in the presence of the enemy earned the Medal of Honor. The citation recognizes his service over several days without describing a particular individual maneuver.

Torgerson died in Rosedale, New York. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
