Biography

Fought his gun through a fierce naval clash despite damage.

Sergeant Michael Hudson served in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard USS Brooklyn. At Mobile Bay on 5 August 1864, he fought his gun through a two-hour engagement despite heavy damage to the ship and casualties among the crew. CMOHS records his birth in County Sligo, Ireland, in 1834, death on 28 December 1891, and burial at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, Michigan. The Medal of Honor was for this naval action. The profile does not establish his prewar occupation.
