Biography

Volunteered to rescue a trapped tugboat under enemy fire.

During the Deer Creek Expedition in Mississippi, Michael Huskey volunteered for a rescue mission while enemy fire threatened the boats around him.

Huskey served as a fireman aboard USS Carondelet. In March 1863, during operations in the Yazoo Delta, he volunteered to help rescue the tug Ivy under fire and carried out his regular duties with conspicuous merit during the hazardous expedition.

Medal of Honor Citation (condensed): Volunteered to assist in rescuing the tug Ivy under enemy fire during the Deer Creek Expedition and displayed gallant and meritorious conduct throughout the mission.

CMOHS records Huskey as born in Niagara County, New York, in 1841. He died in Memphis, Tennessee, on October 21, 1864.
