Nannasaddie

He guided soldiers through the long Apache winter campaigns.

Nannasaddie was an Apache scout in the United States Army during the campaigns in Arizona Territory in the winter of 1872-73. He served among the Indigenous scouts employed by the Army during George Crook's operations.

His service brought the Medal of Honor for gallantry during the campaigns and engagements with Apache forces. The award recognized his conduct across the winter operations rather than describing one separately named encounter. The decoration was issued on 12 April 1875.

Nannasaddie belonged to the group of Apache scouts recognized for that campaign. Their service placed them in the difficult position of assisting the Army in operations against other Apache communities. His name survives in the official roll of Medal of Honor recipients and in the memorial to the scouts at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
