Norman Douglas Holbrook

Commander Norman Douglas Holbrook VC was a British naval officer and recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

He achieved historic distinction during the First World War as the first submariner to be awarded the Victoria Cross, which also marked the first naval Victoria Cross gazetted during the conflict.

Serving in the Royal Navy, Holbrook's pioneering actions in submarine warfare paved the way for future undersea operations and established his legacy as one of the most celebrated naval heroes of the war.
